CS2 Super Sunday is here! Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has been at the center of exhilarating tournaments, mind-blowing plays, and unforgettable moments. This has attracted fans from far and wide while also raising the bar for the entire esports industry. CS2 has fully embraced its moment in the spotlight with record-breaking viewership and electrifying gameplay.

As the 2024 season draws to a close, the action is just heating up with two of the year’s most anticipated tournaments set to unfold. Here’s our admittedly very hyped take on the Thunderpick World Championship and BLAST Premier World Finals, and how you can make the most of all the action.

2024 Has Been A Celebration Of CS2 Esports

It’s safe to say that 2024 has been a banner year for CS2 esports. With nearly $17.3 million in prize money distributed across almost 500 events, CS2 ranks as the second-largest esports title of the year. The PGL Major Copenhagen was a standout event, pulling in 1.8 million peak viewers and culminating in an unforgettable grand final between NAVI and FaZe.

But the excitement didn’t stop there. The Intel Extreme Masters and BLAST Premier series remained marquee events, while the inaugural Esports World Cup in Riyadh showcased esports’ huge global appeal.

CS2 has remained popular on Twitch, too, amassing 1.5 million peak viewers and more than 649 million hours watched in 2024.

And guess what? The year is far from over!

Thunderpick World Championship 2024

Since April, dozens of CS2 pro teams faced off in online single-elimination qualifiers across three key regions: Europe, North America, and, for the first time, South America. These qualifiers delivered incredible plays from start to finish, but only eight teams earned a place in the 2024 Thunderpick World Championship.

More recently, the tournament wrapped up its double-elimination Group Stage, which saw Fnatic, OG, Imperial, and BESTIA clinch the final four spots in the single-elimination Playoffs bracket. Notably, Fnatic rebounded from a crushing loss to The MongolZ by defeating Cloud9 2-0 in the Group B decider.

In a shocking move, OG also eliminated veteran squad Virtus.pro in Group A, with a standout performance from F1KU. Imperial took down Ninjas in Pyjamas with a 2-0 sweep in Group C, while BESTIA narrowly edged out M80 in a three-map rematch in Group D, despite initially losing to them in the opening round.

TWC 2024 Finals Prize Pool And Competing Teams

After the Playoffs wrap up, the TWC will move to a LAN Finals on Nov. 2-3 in front of a live audience at the LVL Dome Arena in Berlin, Germany. Here, the top four teams will compete for a record-breaking $1 million prize pool—the largest ever funded by a sportsbook!

Here are the teams competing in the TWC 2024 Finals:

  • 3DMAX
  • The MongolZ
  • HEROIC
  • OG

BLAST Premier World Final 2024

The BLAST Premier World Final 2024 will run from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3 at the iconic Resorts World Convention Centre in Sentosa, Singapore. This marks the first time Southeast Asia hosts a major BLAST event and this year’s World Final promises to be both a nail-biting and unforgettable experience.

As the final event of the BLAST Premier season, the tournament will see eight of the world’s top teams battle for a share of a $1 million prize pool. It also serves as the last premier LAN event ahead of the Shanghai Major RMR, making it the ultimate testing ground for teams aiming to assert their dominance.

Seven of the eight participating teams are in the Top 10 of the HLTV World Rankings, guaranteeing fierce competition in every matchup. We’re talking about teams like Team Spirit, the winners of IEM Katowice and the BLAST Premier Spring Final, who will be looking to regain their dominant form.

Natus Vincere has considerable momentum as the IEM Rio, ESL Pro League Season 20, and EWC 2024 champions. G2 Esports, fresh off their victory at the Fall Final, also appears ready to prove their mettle. Defending champions Team Vitality, led by the ever-dominant ZywOo, are also expected to be strong contenders after their victory at IEM Cologne in August.

Finals Format And Competing Teams

The BLAST Premier World Final will feature a familiar format, with two double-elimination groups followed by a single-elimination playoff. However, only the top three teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, at which point the competition will culminate in an epic best-of-five grand final, where the teams will fight to cement their legacies.
