Who Is On This EG Dota 2 Team?
This current Evil Geniuses Dota 2 roster features Chris Luck, Panda, Pakasz, Wisper, Matthew, and Vintage (coach). They’ve replaced the previous squad, which consisted of Arteezy, Fly, Cr1t-, Abed, and Nightfall, alongside coach Bulba.
The South American superteam features “talent to represent the future of Evil Geniuses and Dota 2 as a whole over the coming years.” You can learn more about the EG Dota 2 players and their head coach below.
Chris Luck
Jean Pierre “Chris Luck” Salazar, also known as “C.smile <” is a 25-year-old Peruvian player celebrating his 26th birthday on Oct. 20, 2023. Yes, Chris Luck will have his birthday during The International 2023, and we get the feeling that lifting the Aegis of Champions is likely his biggest b-day wish.
Chris Luck is considered one of the best South American middle lane players by many Dota 2 esports fans, honing his craft at beastcoast before joining Evil Geniuses on Nov. 23, 2022. Despite having some big boots to fill of previous EG middle players Abed and SumaiL, this star has already won fans over.
Panda
Jose “Panda” Padilla, known to some fans as “Pandaboo,” is a 23-year-old Peruvian hard support player (PO5) with a knack for fantastic Bane and Crystal Maiden plays. He’s seen great success with Thunder Awaken at The International 2022 with a 5th to 6th place finish, making it clear that Panda supports his carry player.
Panda joined Evil Geniuses on Nov. 23, 2022. Since then, he has had solid support performances, helping his carry (Pakazs) farm to his heart’s content in the safe lane. Panda is considered a pillar of the EG team, playing the sacrificial role so others can succeed and thrive.
Pakazs
Crhistian “Pakazs” Savina, also known as “Angel,” is a 22-year-old carry player carving a place for himself in the safe lane as Evil Geniuses. Pakazs has excellent composure and decision-making skills in the carry position and has had some truly remarkable performances since 2021.
The Peruvian carry player previously starred for Thunder Awaken before joining Evil Geniuses on Nov. 23, 2022. Since joining EG, Pakazs has impressed with his Morphling, and Gyrocopter plays, making quick work of enemy heroes in teamfights.
Wisper
Adrián “Wisper” Dobles is a 21-year-old offlane player with nerves of steel. In 2019, he became the first player from Bolivia to qualify for The International. At The International 2019 with Infamous, Wisper finished in eighth place, losing to Team Secret in the playoffs.
Wisper joined the EG roster on November 23, 2022, and since then, he has shown fantastic composure under pressure, despite being the youngest player in the squad. However, Wisper has big shoes to fill, with previous EG rosters featuring offlane legends such as Saahil “Universe” Arora.
Matthew (IGL)
Farith “Matthew” Puente is the in-game leader (IGL) for EG’s Dota 2 roster, calling the shots and commanding the drafting phase. Despite an early exit at the Riyadh Masters 2023, the IGL from Peru has pulled off some brilliant drafts.
Known for his playmaking in position four support, Matthew had an excellent run at The International 2022 with Thunder Awaken before losing to Team Liquid. He joined Evil Geniuses on Nov. 23, 2022, and we can’t wait to see more of Matthew’s plays with Rubick, Clockwerk, and Earth Spirit!
Vintage (Coach)
The 27-year-old Peruvian coach, David “Vintage” Angulo Nicho, entered the Dota 2 esports scene in 2016 with Meraki Gaming (Latam Defenders). They won the Movistar Liga Pro Gaming Season 6 Second Division, and he then moved to Infinity, which competed in the South American DPC Lower Division.
Vintage’s biggest success comes from his time with Thunder Awaken. Shortly after Vintage joined as a coach, Thunder Awaken qualified for the ESL One Stockholm Major, where the team earned a respectable 5th to 6th place finish. At the time, Thunder Awaken looked incredibly strong but got knocked out by an on-form OG, who beat Gaimin Gladiators, Tundra Esports, and TSM to win the event.
What To Expect From EG Dota 2 Esports
The endgame goal of any Dota 2 esports team is to lift the Aegis of Champions. In 2015, Evil Geniuses became the first organization from North America to claim the ultimate prize. So, you may wonder if fans can expect a repeat for the organization with their new roster. That’s impossible to predict, of course, because anything can happen in front of a live crowd in the biggest annual Dota 2 event.
What we can say is that The International 2023 is the first one for the players under the Evil Geniuses banner. The team earned a direct invite from Valve, placing fifth overall in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2023 and first place in the DPC SA 2023 Tour 3 Division I. There is no doubt EG’s Dota 2 team is hungry for a big trophy to add to the organization’s cabinet.
