Team SoloMid’s History
Let’s examine this controversial esports organization’s history, accomplishments, and growth.
The Birth of TSM
Andy “Reginald” Dinh founded Team SoloMid in September 2009, back when it was initially a League of Legends (LoL) community website (solomid.net). In 2011, the TSM LoL team was born. Reginald then retired from competitive play to run the business full-time in 2013.
Growth And Expansion
TSM expanded into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) esports by acquiring the Team Dignitas roster on Jan. 24, 2015. On Aug. 1, 2015, TSM signed Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios, who was later immortalized in the Guinness Book of World Records thanks to his winning streak of 56 tournaments.
TSM signed a Rainbow Six Siege roster in 2019, continually improving its teams and players. The R6 Siege division went on to win the Six Invitational 2022. According to a Forbes report, Team SoloMid was the most valuable esports company that year, with its value set at an astounding $540 million!
TSM in 2020 and Beyond
TSM has recently seen a bit of controversy, with accusations of verbal abuse against Andy “Reginald” Dinh coming to light. Riot Games fined Reginald $75,000 following an investigation, while TSM’s internal investigation found “no unlawful conduct.” Also, on Nov. 16, 2022, Team SoloMid dropped its FTX branding when FTX declared bankruptcy.
Despite the chatter, the organization continues to thrive, and we’re sure many more trophies will make their way into TSM’s already stuffed-to-bursting trophy cabinet.
