Vici Gaming (also known as VG or VG电子竞技俱乐部) is a Chinese esports colossus that sends shockwaves throughout the competitive gaming landscape. Birthed in 2012, VG has established a strong footing in multiple esports titles and genres, with its most significant impact felt in the Dota 2 arena.

Vici Gaming’s name translates to “I conquer” in Latin and it encapsulates their fighting spirit, exemplified by a string of distinguished achievements. This includes their crowning moment, placing 2nd at The International 2014. So let’s explore VG’s history and shine a light on their greatest moments.

Vici Gaming’s History

Founded in 2012, Vici Gaming emerged as a formidable force in DotA (Defense of the Ancients). In fact, their expansion into Dota 2 in 2013 led to a close miss at The International (TI) 2013, but with an all-star team of Sylar, Super, rO, fy, and Fenrir, VG rebounded at TI the next year.

After securing 2nd place at TI4, Vici Gaming returned stronger in The International 2015, but was outmatched by LGD Gaming and settled for 4th place. Further, star player Hao moved to former TI4 champions Newbee. This shook VG’s performance but didn’t quench their indomitable spirit.

Instead, VG’s gaming dominion expanded, encompassing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), League of Legends (LoL), and Overwatch. Their performances in premier events were nothing short of impressive, but their TI quest remained resolute through 2019, ending in a 5th-6th place finish.

Vici Gaming faced a setback in their journey to The International 2022 championship, losing 1:2 to Team Liquid in the Last Chance Qualifier playoffs. Despite this, VG’s fighting spirit remains unbroken as they continue to compete in premier events and inspire fans worldwide with their skilled gameplay.

Vici Gaming’s CS:GO Team

Under the Rare Atom banner, the Vici Gaming CS:GO division has made waves in Counter-Strike’s lower divisions. Showcasing their prowess, the team secured victories at Perfect World Arena: Premier League 2023 and eXTREMESLAND Festival 2022 with high hopes for the future.

Vici Gaming’s Dota 2 Team

Vici Gaming’s Dota 2 squad was a force to be reckoned with from 2018-2021, often dominating the Chinese Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) regional rankings. They had an early taste of victory and clinched the runner-up position at The International 2014 despite a tough 1-3 defeat against Newbee in the Grand Finals.

During this time, VG stormed the Dota 2 esports scene, notching victories at i-League Season 1, The Summit 2, DreamLeague Season 11, and EPICENTER Major 2019. They also appeared at The International in 2015, 2019, and 2021. Today, VG is eyeing a return to its golden era as it charges through the DPC.

Vici Gaming’s League of Legends Team

The Vici Gaming League of Legends team (now Rare Atom) has had a rollercoaster ride in the LPL. From 2017-2020, VG witnessed highs like securing 1st place at LSPL Summer 2017, National Electronic Sports Open 2018, and NEST 2020. But today, Rare Atom charts a new path marked by poor performance.

Other Vici Gaming Rosters

Vici Gaming has made their mark across various esports titles like FIFA, Hearthstone, Overwatch, PUBG, StarCraft, and WarCraft III. Although some of these teams may no longer be active, their legacy remains untouched.

  • Arena of Valor: From 2019-2023, Vici Gaming has reeled in $540K+ across 12 tournaments in Honor of Kings (Arena of Valor in the West). Better still, VG still actively competes in this title today. Place your Arena of Valor bets!
  • Hearthstone: VG’s brief tenure in Hearthstone earned them $100K+ between 2014-2016, marked by wins at Red Bull ECL 2013, NVIDIA Game Festival 2014, NEL 2015 Winter, and Celestial Alpha events. Quite the achievement!
  • Overwatch: Entering the Overwatch arena in 2016, Vici Gaming wrapped up two years later. Despite a short run, they scored $100K+ victories, culminating in a triumphant win at Overwatch Contenders 2018: Season 2.

Interestingly, there is no Vici Gaming Valorant team yet. Perhaps the Chinese colossus will expand to this title in the near future.
