Fortnite Player Count

Fortnite is a juggernaut in the gaming space, featuring a fiercely competitive environment that is constantly evolving. The battle royale regularly releases a heap of new content, such as new weapons, skins, map reworks, and in-game cosmetics. And best of all—it’s completely free to play!

But how many people play Fortnite in 2024? And is it still the most popular game today? That’s what we’re here to answer. In this guide, we’ll uncover the latest player count and Twitch viewer statistics of one of the most culturally significant games ever.

How Many People Play Fortnite Right Now?

According to Epic Games at GDC 2023, there were more than 500 million registered Fortnite accounts as of March 2023. This number reflected a growth of 150 million users from the previous three years (+12.6% CAGR). However, it was estimated that only 236 million of these players were active monthly users.

Unfortunately, Epic Games has not released any additional figures about the Fortnite player base. As a result, it is almost impossible to determine the latest player count. That said, we can make some educated guesses based on third-party data.

What Is The Fortnite Player Count In 2024?

According to ActivePlayer.io, Fortnite has an average daily player count of ~30 million and a peak active player count of 60 million between Feb. 13 and March 13, 2024. While the website is regarded as a reputable source of information, it’s important to reiterate that these numbers may differ significantly from Epic Games’ actual reporting.

For example, on Nov. 5, 2023, a post on the official Fortnite X (formerly Twitter) account revealed that the Fortnite OG launch led to a record-breaking 44.7 million players logged in. This shattered the previous record of 12.3 million concurrent users set during the Travis Scott “Astronomical” live event.

ActivePlayer.io reported a peak active player count of 26,574,410 in November 2023, which is far less than Epic Games’ reported 44.7 million players. Since the methodology behind the website’s data collection is unspecified, it is hard to determine the reason for this shortfall. So, it is best to take these estimations with a pinch of salt.

The table below offers a historical breakdown of the monthly players in Fortnite:

MonthAverage Concurrent Live PlayersPeak Concurrent Live Players
May 20241,270,3382,420,862
April 20241,442,6852,861,907

Why Is It Difficult To Get Accurate Fortnite Player Count Stats?

Interestingly, Epic Games lets you view the number of active players in Fortnite. These figures are visible under each experience under the “Discovery” tab. However, the exact Fortnite player count can get a bit muddied because each game mode has separate player counts, and these change over time.

Another issue is deciphering whether a logged-in user is active or idle—or if the user has only one account. Beyond this, in-game events and major updates like Fortnite OG can also fluctuate the number of active Fortnite players. All of these factors make it hard to pinpoint a consistent number.

Is Fortnite A Dead Game In 2024?

No, definitely not! Fortnite is very much alive. The popular battle royale continues to adapt and evolve with the addition of regular gameplay updates. These updates include new content, quests, skins, and map reworks to keep the game fresh and exciting for players.

We also can’t overlook Fortnite’s cultural impact. The game has been featured in movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. It has also included collaborations with major franchises like Marvel and Star Wars, which have formed part of the game’s seasonal narratives.

In terms of revenue, Fortnite continues to rake in billions of dollars monthly, as evidenced by earnings reports, despite the game being free-to-play. This means more and more people are playing the game and buying cosmetics. In short, all signs point to Fortnite being alive and well—with no slowing down anytime soon!
